The Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage programme at the UvA is organising a two-day workshop about safety for conservators in training on 16th & 17th September 2019, in Wormerveer. The training aims to acquaint conservators with current safety rules and guidelines at construction sites and regarding working at heights. Furthermore the current state of knowledge regarding the use of chemicals and other hazardous materials in conservation practice will be taught. The training does not include exams and official certificates such as VCA but will introduce the many safety topics in today’s conservation practice.
The workshop entails:
– VCA (Dutch Safety Checklist for Contractors) theory for working at construction sites.
– Theory and practice about safely work at heights. This includes climbing, rescue and self rescue, personal protection equipment and safely work with:
o Ladders and scaffolds
o Scissor lift and telescopic lift
– Safely handle chemicals and hazardous materials used in and on objects and buildings.
The workshop has 8 places left for conservation professionals at a first come first serve basis. In case of a lack of interest for this workshop it will be cancelled and applicants contacted at least one month on beforehand and payments reimbursed.
The course fee for two full time days (in Wormerveer) is € 450,- and includes lunch.
The course will be given in English.
