Icon’s 2019

will take place from 12th-14th June 2019 at Belfast Waterfront

Dear all

I am sure many of you will recall the excitement around our sold-out 2016 international triennial conference in Birmingham. Hard to believe, but it’s nearly that time again!

Preparation has been underway for Icon’s next triennial conference – and now dates, location and venue are confirmed.
Icon’s 2019 conference will be in BELFAST, and will take place from 12th-14th June 2019 at Belfast Waterfront.

This will continue our established pattern, in which our triennial conferences have taken in a different home country each year.  As this has already taken us to Wales, Scotland and England, it’s clearly time to visit Northern Ireland. As you may know, Belfast has undergone a spectacular resurgence over the last ten years and there is plenty to see and do in the city.  There is vast scope for Icon19 to be  bookended by a wide variety of conference tours, and we hope to take in the local conservation scene, local history and local points of interest such as the Giant’s Causeway as part of our conference programme.

Belfast is well-connected and a short flight from major UK cities such as Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow and London.  New hotels have proliferated in the city – with eight more scheduled to open between now and the time of our conference alone.  It seems poised to be a very competitive market for accommodation – something we hope to use to our advantage.

The structure of Icon19 will be the same as previous conferences, featuring multiple parallel sessions delving into and across the specialisms. More detail – and the Call for Papers – will be forthcoming in due course.

We will also shortly be conducting an open call-out for volunteers to join our conference organising committee.
Please do consider any role you might want to play!

Best regards
Michael Nelles
